Martin Keown compares Thomas Partey to Arsenal legend Patrick Viera

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has sung the praises of Arsenal new signing Thomas Teye Partey for his outstanding display in his first start against Rapid Vienna in the Uefa Europa League.

It was an all action display from the 27 year old central midfielder who controlled the Arsenal midfielder with his tough tackling, precise passing and his impeccable aerial duels.

Martin Keown has compared Thomas Partey to former midfield enforcer and captain Patrick Viera who achieved legendary status at the club for his all action display.

Partey was voted the man of the match by Arsenal fans after Thursday's Europa League triumph over Rapid Vienna.

"I think you know when you see a player immediately add that touch of class, who wants to play and makes things happen. He's so silky smooth, he's oozed class and been everywhere." Keown said.

The Ghanaian signed for the Gunners on transfer deadline day as, after a summer of haggling, Arsenal paid his release clause to bring him to North London.

His small cameo against Manchester City was inconsequential, this game was to be his proper unveiling.

He joined Arsenal on a five-year deal for a reported fee €50 million from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day.

Partey made his Gunners debut last weekend in the Premier League against Manchester City, joining the action as a second half substitute.
