Are football people not citizens of Ghana - Takyi Arhin laments

Veteran football administrator Takyi Arhin aka 'Thunder' has lamented why football has been left in the cold by the government in the midst of providing stimulus packages for various organizations.

Football clubs are not part of the government's $600million relief packages for businesses and enterprises affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Government has provided a $600million stimulus package to help mitigate the financial impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on small businesses but unfortunately football clubs are not eligible to access this funds as they do not meet the requirements of a small business.

According to the Executive Director of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), Kosi Yankey, football clubs were not considered for this particular package

The GFA has petitioned the government about coming to the aid of its members that is the clubs but is yet to hear from the government.

“What sin has football people committed that we are not part of the package," Arhin quizzed on Happy FM.

“Football is a serious business and we employ about 4000 people. We pay taxes and also we are citizens."

He concluded, “We have sent a proposal to government and still waiting for them."
